A row of glasses filled with amber wine on a dark wooden counter, warm lights glowing behind

Bywater, New Orleans. Tuesday to Sunday from 4 pm

Wine that is still alive

Forty wines open by the glass, eighteen stools at a zinc counter and a shop wall of bottles from growers who farm by hand. Camille Broussard pours what she would drink at home, and the kitchen keeps the plates small and generous.

A counter for wines with a story in them

An amphora is the clay jar winemakers have trusted for eight thousand years. We named the bar after it because the wines we love are still made the old way: grapes farmed without chemicals, wild yeasts, nothing added and very little taken away.

The list turns over every week. Skin-contact whites from the Slovenian hills, chilled reds from the Jura, a sparkling cider from a Vermont orchard. Every bottle on the shop wall can be opened at the counter for a $15 corkage fee, or carried home at shop price.
